Spiritual Groeth

The focus of the Christian faith is certainly not the life of the Christian, its Jesus' work for us not our work for Him. The way many of us think about sanctification is not very sanctified–it’s narcissistic. We think way too much about how we’re doing, if we’re growing, whether we’re doing it right or not. We spend too much time concerned over our failures and reflecting on our successes. The more I focus on my need to get better, the worse I actually get.

Spiritual growth is realizing how utterly dependent we are on Christ’s cross and Gods grace and mercy–It’s not arriving at some point where we need Jesus less and less because we’re getting better and better.

When we stop focusing on our need to get better, that’s what it means to get better.

When we stop obsessing over our need to improve, that’s what it means to improve!
